Teaching Self-Love
Comfortable in Her Shell is written for ages 0-12, and is delightful story about how self-love emphasizes that beauty is not limited to physical appearance alone. This book was written to inspire readers and is filled with messages promoting self-acceptance, body positivity and inclusivity towards others. The book aims to teach children to focus on inner qualities and such as kindness, compassion and confidence recognizing that true beauty radiates from within.
Squishy, a lovable tortoise born different than others, is on an auspicious adventure, and teaches that bodies can come in any shape and self-worth is measured by how much we love ourselves. Alongside her aspiring rock star sister Piccalilly, the two face challenges along the way.
With a dash of willpower, a sprinkle of magic, and a whole lot of heart, the sisters navigate the landscapes of the forest—from the peaks of Fuzzy Mountain to the terrains of the annual Salad Festival. Along the way, the sisters cross paths with cheeky forest animals who make fun of and laugh at Squishy. To their astonishment, she embraces their unkindness! Meeting a tortoise like Squishy is like meeting no other.
Through vibrant illustrations and literary prose, Comfortable in Her Shell encourages young readers to discover the powers of self-love, body positivity, kindness, and inclusivity towards others.
Kindness education is not just about teaching children to be nice to one another, but about instilling in them the values and skills that are necessary for creating a more positive, inclusive, and supportive environment. By shifting the focus from external to internal qualities, the self-love movement challenges society’s obsession with perfection and encourages individuals to value themselves for who they truly are. This shift in perspective has the power to transform how children view themselves and others, fostering a more compassionate and inclusive society.
